The show Made in Heaven, directed by Zoya Akhter was released on Amazon Prime last year and is a must-watch for all of us who only saw the upside and glitters of the wedding planning business. While movie such as Band Baja Baarat shows us only the brighter side of the picture, this web series realistically brings out the harsh flavours of life.

Even though I think this web series was not as celebrated as it should have been. The show talks about a lot of plucky topics such as accepting homosexuality, the social development of societal mindsets and betrayal. Zoya Akhter has brought in some strong beautiful for each character, so here I am a bit tempted to discuss them all but let's focus.

Sobita Dhulipala played Tara Khanna. A little background check on the character who comes from a lower middle family and is unsatisfied with her situation, she bags herself a rich businessman i.e. her boss Adil Khanna played by Jim Sarbh. Tara is a gold-digger who tricks her boss into falling in love with her effortless charm and marrying her leaving him no option ( she leaks an intimate video of them and plays the victim). Tara's story is a classic rags to rich tale however what makes it exceptional is her swift and flawless attempt to fit into Adil's world. It wasn't something that she didn't expect, she planned it all man!

However despite having everything she never lost her sense of dignity and certainly didn't surrender in tough times. She ran her business laboriously. When it seemed like they were about to just about to lose the whole deal, her endurance and undaunted perspicacity would always help in find a way out. She defied a goon politician who tried to get his daughter married against her will. She stood up for her friend Karan who was a homosexual when he came out to his parents and needed her support. She raised her voice against a high-profile minister who sexually harassed and abused a minor. She was ballsy enough to do something rather than watching people get hurt.

The most heartbreaking fact that kept me thinking was just that even though she got it all, she lost her sense of identity on the way. This series tells us how the economic divide creates a huge difference in our frame of mind. Adil calling the street food dirty and slightly less developed locations as filthy proved it. Which made Tara question herself and what she has become. After hosting a wedding for one of their helpers, she visited her grooming classes where she addressed a bunch of students and told them all about polishing herself and forgetting every bit of what she used to be.

"Yeh koi nahi batata ki upari roop upari he hota aur hosla jo hain woh andar ka astitva "

What she meant was that no one will tell you that confidence comes from inner beauty and the exterior appearance is just a facade. She realized that she had been living a lie, that no amount of money could get her the love and respect that she craved.

Tara's utterly realistic mindset saved a lot of couples from making irrational decisions. She told one of the brides who wanted to walk away from her in-law's money and power as they disrespected her personal space, "When the romance wears out and trust me it will eventually, you will regret walking away from that kind of money". She warns the girl to not be an idiot and now that she has made her point, she should play smart.

Tara is constantly demotivated by her mother-in-law. Just so typical guys, I can't even!!!! But what you can't deny is the fact that she was just another outsider who made it to the inner circle. In respect to her relations with her mother weren't that great either, who conditioned her to dream big and get it quickly when she couldn't get those things in a short leap even if she worked very hard. Tara's mother brainwashed both Tara and her sister to use their beauty and youth as her weapon. These sorts of mental nourishment changes an individual's outlook towards life. During this chaotic and toxic upbringing, Tara lost herself. Even though she tried being independent, her primary role was to be grateful to her in-laws for everything she had. Sometimes she would feel very small as if she does not fit in this charade.

In the final episode, Tara confesses everything she did to make it to the top tier and tells her husband how he wasn't the only one who betrayed her, she cheated too. Her guilt and betrayal from her best friend and husband made her introspect and gave her the courage to accept her true self. Tara ultimately leaves her husband and the delusional life she once gave up everything for.
